Published on February 15th, 2025, at 12:28 pm by our staff, Nick Kyrgios has recently taken to social media to express his frustration towards the decision made by WADA and Jannik Sinner, concerning Sinner’s three-month ban.
Initially set for a courtroom showdown with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in April, WADA and Sinner managed to settle the matter out of court. It seems that WADA was initially pushing for a more severe penalty, proposing a ban of up to two years for Sinner after he tested positive for clostebal twice last March.
Kyrgios, known for his outspoken nature and his past success as a Wimbledon finalist, has been quite vocal in his criticism of Sinner since the controversy broke last summer. In his view, fairness in tennis remains elusive.
“Bad day for tennis,” Kyrgios tweeted, conveying his disappointment. He followed it up with plans to host live discussions, hinting at shared unrest among players. “I know a lot of players that are feeling the same way at the moment so looking to hold live spaces next week so we can talk about it – stay tuned for exact time.”
He further elaborated on his viewpoint: “So WADA came out and said it would be a 1-2 year ban. Obviously, Sinner’s team did everything in their power to reduce it to just three months, with no titles or prize money at stake. Guilty or not? Sad day for tennis. Fairness in tennis does not exist.”
His tweets, marked by emotive phrases like “DODGY AS 😭😅”, paint a picture of his skepticism towards the agreement reached.
