Deion Sanders, the head coach for Colorado, has been quite outspoken about wanting his team to participate in a joint practice session with another prominent football program this spring. It seems that among the growing interest, Coach Prime has shown a keen preference for teaming up with a specific program.
Just recently, Syracuse’s head coach, Fran Brown, voiced his enthusiasm for the prospect of having his team, the Orange, practice alongside the Colorado Buffaloes. On Friday, Sanders shared his positive feelings on the matter in a conversation with the NFL Network. He mentioned that discussions are underway with Syracuse to bring this idea to life, although he’s aware that financial matters might pose a hurdle.
“I have immense respect and admiration for my dear friend Fran Brown,” Sanders remarked. “I truly hope he can take that leap with us. We’ve already talked about it. Fran, my respects to you. I want this to happen just as much as you do.”
Sanders went on to explain that the benefits would extend beyond just football. It’s about financial literacy, education, and more. They envision a collaborative initiative that involves both teams, should they be able to clear the logistical challenges.
Earlier, Syracuse had a strong season under Fran Brown, finishing with a record of 10-3. They delivered a stunning upset against Miami, knocking them out of the ACC title and College Football Playoff contention, and wrapped up the season by defeating Washington State in the Holiday Bowl, securing a No. 22 national ranking.
Even though Colorado and Syracuse aren’t scheduled to face off during the regular season, having a joint practice certainly wouldn’t be detrimental. It could serve as a great chance for the energetic Buffaloes to engage with a top-tier team and hone their skills.
The age-old adage rings true here: iron sharpens iron. Shared practice could very well be the stepping stone both teams need to elevate their games further.
