Gene Davis, the experienced General Manager and Golf Course Superintendent at Elk Rapids Golf Club, has been given a significant nod of recognition. He’s stepping up as the Chapter President for 2025 of the Michigan Golf Course Superintendents Association (MiGCSA).
This opportunity marks Davis’s seventh year on the MiGCSA Board of Directors, bringing two and a half decades of industry experience to the forefront. As he embarks on his 11th year at the helm of Elk Rapids G.C., Davis balances his professional life with a bustling family home in Elk Rapids alongside his wife Carissa and their three sons, Jackson, 17, Graham, 13, and Rhett, 8.
The 18th annual meeting and election for the MiGCSA took place on February 25 at the scenic Grand Traverse Resort & Spa in Acme, solidifying Davis’s leadership role. Joining him this year are Scott Pulaski, from Walloon Lake Country Club, taking the role of Vice President, and Craig McKinley from Buck’s Run Golf Club in Mt. Pleasant as Secretary/Treasurer.
As new faces join the board, it also means bidding farewell to outgoing members. Doug Hoeh, the 2023 Past President from Treetops Resort & Spa, and Kevin Rish, previously of Saginaw Country Club, were respectfully acknowledged for their dedication and service to the organization.
Representing the Western Region, William “Skip” Connolly from Alpine Golf Club in Grand Rapids secured re-election, ensuring continuity. Joining him are newcomers Jordan Caplan, CGCS from Belvedere Golf Club in Charlevoix, and Andrew Paxton from Spring Lake Country Club in Spring Lake, both committing to three-year terms.
The MiGCSA remains steadfast in its mission, championing the advancement of its over 800 members through diverse programs and resources. At the helm is Executive Director Adam Ikamas, CGCS, guiding the association towards a thriving future in the golf industry.
