If I were a professional footballer, there are definitely some legendary players I’d not only admire but closely study. I’d dive deep into understanding their training regimes, dietary habits, and anything else that contributed to their prowess, aiming to replicate and possibly exceed their levels of excellence.
Reflecting on some of Chelsea’s most triumphant teams of the past always brings a sense of nostalgia. However, if I were currently playing for Chelsea, I’d be proactive in reaching out to these football greats for guidance and advice.
Take Frank Lampard, for example. Even if his schedule is packed with managing Coventry this season, I’d still be blowing up his phone, eager to learn what made him such a phenomenal midfielder. His knack for timing his arrival in the box to score and his impressive long-distance goals were just a part of his magic. More than that, his mindset and resilience were truly exceptional.
Remember when Lampard joined Chelsea and many skeptics doubted his potential? He sure proved them wrong.
On a recent podcast, John Obi Mikel reminisced about Lampard’s work ethic: “The best trainer, without a shadow of a doubt. The best trainer I’ve ever played with. After training, he’d stay back, shooting endlessly. He’d take about 20 to 30 balls, getting one of the assistant coaches to keep helping him practice.”
That dedication is precisely what made Lampard a standout. It’s how he forged a reputation as one of the best goal-scoring midfielders in football history, etching his name as a celebrated Chelsea icon. His story is a testament to the power of hard work and extra effort. Lampard showed that relentless dedication could defy all expectations.
It makes me wonder, which current Chelsea player embodies this ‘do more’ attitude today? Maybe there is one, perhaps a few. I’m not suggesting they’re not already doing it, but if they want to make a mark at the club, this is the path to take. Extra training sessions are the game-changers, proving that a winning mentality is just as crucial as skill in today’s football landscape.
I’ll have to see which of today’s players put in the extra time after regular training sessions. That curiosity lingers with me.
