Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is on a mission. After a disappointing 7-10 record last season despite high hopes, Lamb and his team have their sights set squarely on winning the Super Bowl next year. The Cowboys were riding high on expectations, especially with the big-money contracts Lamb ($136 million) and Dak Prescott ($240 million) signed. But injuries and inconsistent performances, particularly on defense and along the offensive line, derailed their plans.
Watching their arch-rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, hoist the Super Bowl trophy added fuel to the fire for Dallas. “Yeah, I’m seeing it and I’ll see them again next year twice with that,” Lamb told Sports Lens, referring to the extra motivation from the Eagles’ success.
Dallas is turning a new leaf with Brian Schottenheimer stepping up as head coach after the team parted ways with Mike McCarthy following five seasons. While McCarthy was the only head coach Lamb had known in the NFL, Schottenheimer isn’t exactly a stranger. Having been with the Cowboys for the past three seasons and serving as offensive coordinator for two, there’s a layer of familiarity and comfort.
Under Schottenheimer’s guidance last season, Dallas topped the league in points scored, and Lamb shattered franchise records with 135 receptions for 1,749 yards. “Very high energy guy,” Lamb describes Schottenheimer. “He’s always celebrating big plays and is definitely a player’s coach. The more a coach is involved and understands the vibe, the better we connect as a team.”
Schottenheimer, who began his coaching journey in 1997, brings a wealth of experience as an offensive coordinator, beginning with the New York Jets from 2006 to 2011. Having played under him for a while now, Lamb finds the transition smoother than if a total newcomer had taken over.
Reflecting on the team’s future, he seems eager and optimistic. “He’s always pushing to be better. Should be fun. I’m very excited. Can’t wait,” Lamb shares, looking forward to the new beginnings.
Off the field, the Cowboys are keen to secure their defensive star, linebacker Micah Parsons, who’s entering the final year of his rookie deal and seeking a long-term contract. Lamb insists that keeping Parsons in Dallas is a priority. “We’ve talked a lot,” Lamb reveals, “That’s my guy. I know it’s going to get wild and loud, but at the end of the day, he knows his worth.”
Despite uncertainties, Lamb is confident that he and Parsons will end their careers together in Dallas. “We value him here, and trust me, we’ll retire together,” Lamb affirms, dismissing any other possibilities. As he puts it plainly, “Micah’s going to be in a Dallas uniform.”
