In an exciting move for the Cleveland Cavaliers, they announced today from Cleveland Clinic Courts that they’ve signed Javonte Green, a versatile guard/forward. This news comes directly from Koby Altman, the President of Basketball Operations for the Cavaliers.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 220 pounds, Green has had a robust season playing in 50 games, 18 of which he started, for the New Orleans Pelicans. During his time with the Pelicans, he averaged 5.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, along with 1.1 steals, and 0.6 blocks over 21.8 minutes per game. Despite being waived by New Orleans on February 20, Green showed remarkable defensive skills, recording 14 games with multiple steals. Notably, in his last match with the Pelicans against Sacramento on February 13, he achieved a career-high with five steals. Despite limited minutes, he still managed to be second on the team for both steals (55) and blocked shots (30), and he scored in double digits seven times this season.
Over his six NBA seasons, which include stints with Boston, Chicago, and New Orleans, Green has played in 245 games, starting 73 of them. His career averages stand at 5.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 0.85 steals in 17.4 minutes per game. Throughout his career, he’s hit double-digit scoring in 36 games, and he’s topped 20 points four times, including an impressive 25-point, 13-rebound performance against New York on April 5, 2024. Green’s postseason experience includes six playoff games, showcasing his solid performance during critical moments. Coming out of Radford University undrafted, he made a name for himself as the Big South Defensive Player of the Year in 2015. His college career was marked by holding records for most rebounds (1,064), steals (245), and games played (133), while ranking second in points (1,911).
Joining the Cavaliers, fans can look forward to seeing Green don the number 8 jersey, bringing his dynamic skill set to the team.
