Kenzie Morrison, following in the footsteps of his father, former heavyweight boxing champion Tommy ‘The Duke’ Morrison, has taken a bold step into a new fighting arena. The 34-year-old has inked a multi-fight contract with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC), marking an exciting new chapter in his career.
With an impressive track record in boxing, Kenzie Morrison boasts a 22-1-2 record and 20 KOs, with significant victories over opponents like Hasim Rahman Jr. and BKFC veteran Sam Shewmaker. Now, he’s ready to make his mark in the bare-knuckle fighting scene.
“I’ve had some really promising talks with BKFC’s president, David Feldman, over the past few months, and I’m thrilled to join their ranks,” Morrison expressed in a press release. “The athletes in BKFC are among the most skilled in combat sports, and I’m eager to compete alongside them.”
Tommy Morrison, Kenzie’s father, rose to fame in the boxing world during the 1990s. He faced off against legendary names like Ray Mercer, George Foreman, Donovan Ruddock, and Lennox Lewis. Many remember Tommy’s role as the character Tommy ‘The Machine’ Gunn in “Rocky V,” where he played opposite Sylvester Stallone.
As Kenzie steps into this new venture, he is undoubtedly honoring his father’s illustrious legacy. Tommy Morrison concluded his boxing career with an impressive 48-3 record, with 42 of those victories coming by knockout. He held titles like the WBO heavyweight championship and the minor IBC heavyweight title.
Tommy retired in 1996 after testing positive for HIV but made a brief return to the ring in 2007. He triumphed with back-to-back TKOs against John Castle and Matt Weishaar. Additionally, he tried his hand at mixed martial arts, notching a win against Wyoming state heavyweight champion Corey Williams in 2009 under the Ultimate Explosion banner. Sadly, ‘The Duke’ passed away in 2013 from cardiac arrest.
Reflecting on his father’s accomplishments, Kenzie Morrison shared, “My dad left me a legacy I’m proud of. I don’t try to use it as fuel to define me. I pride myself on being me and acknowledge I may never fill his shoes or reach his level as a fighter. But he paved the way for me to make something of myself, and I plan to give it my best shot.”
While fans eagerly await Kenzie’s debut in the BKFC, an official date has yet to be set. Nonetheless, anticipation builds as Kenzie Morrison prepares to carve his path in the world of combat sports, carrying forward the legacy of a legendary family name.
