The First Tee of Greater Detroit is thrilled to announce its 3rd Annual Augusta Watch Party, sponsored by Rocket Classic, happening on April 12 at the Henry Ford Health Pistons Performance Center. This event isn’t just a chance to watch golf; it’s one of the organization’s main fundraising moments, designed to bolster the golf programming it provides for the youth in Detroit.
Guests attending the party will be treated to more than just the thrill of the tournament. They’ll enjoy delicious food and drinks inspired by Augusta itself. But that’s not all—attendees can swing by the golf simulator, shoot some hoops on the Pistons practice court, dive into fun contests, and even take part in a silent auction.
This event is not only a chance to support an excellent cause but also a rare opportunity to explore the Detroit Pistons’ exclusive facility alongside friends.
For those not familiar with The First Tee of Greater Detroit, it’s a youth development organization known for more than just playing golf. They focus on helping kids build character strength, empowering them to tackle life’s endless challenges. Through thoughtfully integrated golf and life skills curriculum, children experience learning that nurtures inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience—traits they carry beyond the green.
Golf, in their eyes, is more than a game; it’s a life analogy, filled with surprising challenges that teach skills reaching far beyond mere gameplay. The aim is to not only impart essential life skills but also ensure that golf is accessible and equitable for young people across Metro Detroit.
Since its inception in 1997, First Tee has grown to include over 150 chapters nationwide, actively engaging 17,000 volunteers to guide and inspire 9 million children. Their inclusive youth programs offer group golf lessons to kids and teens aged 5 to 18, no matter their background or prior experience. They ensure that all necessary equipment is provided, and they maintain a commitment to never turn away a child due to financial constraints.
First Tee’s programs thrive not on participant fees, but on the generous contributions from their community. The programs span various locations in Metro Detroit, from Belle Isle to Chandler Park, having recently expanded to the Inn at St. John in Plymouth. In the year 2024 alone, over 400 kids participated in these programs.
Now, the registration for their Spring/Summer Programs is open. For more information on how to volunteer or involve a child in their youth programs, visit their website at firstteegreaterdetroit.org.
