Andrea Gaudenzi, who currently serves as the ATP Chairman, is set to take on the additional responsibility of interim CEO after Massimo Calvelli steps down at the end of June. This move comes as the ATP begins its search for a new leader, as announced by the men’s tennis tour on Friday.
The tennis world is experiencing a fair share of upheaval lately. Just last month, the players’ association, spearheaded by Novak Djokovic, launched an antitrust lawsuit in a New York federal court. This suit accuses the ATP, the women’s tennis tour, and several other major tennis bodies of operating as a cartel.
Meanwhile, Djokovic, along with 19 other top-ranked players, have reached out to the leaders of the four Grand Slam tournaments. Their request? A bigger slice of the prize money pie and a stronger voice in how decisions are made.
Appointed as ATP’s CEO in 2020, Calvelli has seen player payments rise by $100 million compared to the 2019 figures, according to the tour.
