Liverpool has been having an impressive season under Arne Slot, who has utilized various players from his squad. However, Jamie Carragher believes there are a few he doesn’t completely rely on.
In his column for The Telegraph, Carragher observed, “The Liverpool manager seems to stick to a core group of 14 or 15 for his starting lineup. It appears he has reservations about using players like Harvey Elliott and Wataru Endo unless absolutely necessary. Federico Chiesa, who was the only summer signing, hasn’t really made an impact. His limited game time suggests that Slot doesn’t see the Italian as a decisive player.”
Against Wolves, Wataru Endo was called onto the field, whereas Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa haven’t been seen since the defeat to Plymouth. This clearly indicates who is currently favored for playing time.

Who would have guessed that the Japanese international would become a preferred choice? It’s a testament to his performance during his limited opportunities. Meanwhile, Federico Chiesa received ample criticism for his performance in the FA Cup exit. With fitness issues and fierce competition for forward spots, it’s easy to see why he’s struggled to make his mark.
Harvey Elliott might be the one feeling most frustrated about his lack of playing time after having been one of Klopp’s regulars last season. Now, despite the team’s success, he’s more of a bench player. Supporters might wonder what else the 21-year-old needs to do to earn game time, which doesn’t seem to be on the horizon just yet. As an England under-21 international, he has expressed his desire to stay with the club, but should he continue to be sidelined, no one would fault him for seeking opportunities elsewhere.
