The San Francisco 49ers had high hopes going into the 2024 NFL season, eager to bounce back from their Super Bowl defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, their ambitions quickly unraveled.
Finishing at the bottom of the NFC West, the 49ers ended their season with a disappointing 6-11 record, missing out on the playoffs entirely. Their season was marred by a string of injuries to key offensive players including Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, and Trent Williams, which dealt significant blows to their plans.
On the defensive side, while the 49ers still showed some strength, they weren’t quite as intimidating as they had been in previous years. The situation took a turn for the worse towards the end of the regular season in a game against the Los Angeles Rams, when linebacker De’Vondre Campbell suddenly left the field mid-game.
Campbell’s exit bewildered both fans and analysts, and his refusal to address the matter only fueled further speculation. On his personal X account, he curtly dismissed calls for an explanation with the declaration:
“I ain’t addressing s***. I’m rich and never have to work another day of my life and I told Kyle Shannahan and John Lynch that when they FaceTime me and begged me to come out there an hour after Green Bay cut me,” Campbell tweeted.
This situation left many puzzled as he left the field and headed back to the locker room with little to no clarification. His recent tweets suggest he has no plans to clear the air, likely hurting his prospects as other teams now view him with caution.
Though Campbell may have had his reasons for his abrupt actions, it appears the true story remains locked away with him.
