In the 2024 NFL season, the Houston Texans wrapped up their regular season with a solid 10-7 record. They secured the top spot in the AFC South, which meant they had the opportunity to host a playoff game. In the wildcard round, they came out on top against the Chargers but unfortunately stumbled in the divisional round when they faced the Chiefs.
The Texans had a bit of bad luck on the injury front, particularly with their wide receivers. Notably, Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell were significantly impacted. Upon coming to the Texans, Diggs negotiated a restructured contract, but now he’s heading into free agency this offseason. Despite his injury woes, Texans’ General Manager Nick Caserio expressed that they’d be more than happy to see Diggs come back, saying, “the door is always open” for his return.
Looking at whether Stefon Diggs will ink another deal with Houston is a big question mark right now. Caserio had a chat on SportsRadio610 where he shared his positive feelings toward Diggs, mentioning the good relationship they developed and reiterating that their door remains open for him. His comments made it clear that while nothing is set in stone, they aren’t closing any doors to future possibilities.
Stefon Diggs joined the Texans after a trade from Buffalo following four seasons with the Bills. In 2023, Houston’s wide receiver lineup boasted talents like Nico Collins and Tank Dell. Once Diggs was added, there was a lot of buzz about the Texans’ offense. However, sustaining injuries took a toll, with both Diggs and Dell struggling to stay on the field for much of 2024. Tank Dell managed to play in 14 games, but then he endured a severe knee injury, creating concerns he might be sidelined for most of 2025 too.
Diggs, on the other hand, faced a serious setback during the Texans’ eighth game of the season when he tore his ACL. It was a career-first for him, missing out on playing at least 13 games, and thus ending his streak of six consecutive seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards. As his contract was set to expire, some teams may hesitate to show interest due to his injury.
Nevertheless, Nick Caserio emphasized that the Texans aren’t shutting the door on Diggs. Given Tank Dell’s lengthy recovery period, re-signing Diggs could be a smart move for the team. As the draft approaches in just over two months, it’ll be interesting to see if the Texans aim to bolster their receiving corps further.
