There’s been a bit of a shake-up regarding Shilo Sanders’ luxury ride with Mercedes-Benz. Originally, it looked like the upscale car brand was on the verge of taking back Shilo’s $135,000 Mercedes. The buzz started when Brent Schrotenboer from USA TODAY mentioned that Shilo, who’s known for his football prowess at the University of Colorado, had apparently stopped keeping up with the car payments. This led Mercedes to consider legal action, as the debt was reportedly more than the car’s trade-in worth.
Come Monday, things shifted gears. Schrotenboer updated the story, noting that Mercedes decided to retreat from their legal pursuit and withdraw their motion. While no official explanation was provided, Shilo’s famous father, Deion Sanders, chimed in. He explained that Shilo had sorted out his financial obligations, hinting that some hiccups in the payment process might have triggered the initial misunderstanding. “The company might have called it off if Shilo settled his dues,” Schrotenboer added.
As Deion Sanders has been rather public about Shilo’s financial and career situations, he took a moment during a recent media engagement to address the issue. He acknowledged the rumors but reassured everyone that Shilo had met his responsibilities. He summed it up by saying, “Yes, there was some chatter, but he covered his bases financially. The issues were likely due to disruptions in the payment system after his online account access was terminated. Trust me, he’s sorted it out.”
Besides the car saga, Shilo’s still got some legal hurdles ahead. His bankruptcy case, which arose from an incident back in 2015 involving a security guard at his old high school, is still pending. Shilo filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in October 2023, with debts amounting to nearly $12 million. John Darjean, the former security guard involved, is actively pursuing claims to prevent Shilo’s bankruptcy discharge, fearing he might not recover the damages owed.
In all the noise, the Sanders family continues to address these challenges head-on, with Deion remaining vocal about both Shilo’s prospects and financial issues.
