Rublev is still chasing his elusive first Grand Slam victory, having reached the quarter-finals 10 times but never advancing further. His debut tournament with his new coach, Marat Safin, is set for the Monte Carlo Masters, where he’ll take on Gael Monfils this Wednesday.
Reflecting on his relationship with Safin, Rublev expressed, “Marat has been a source of inspiration for me since my childhood.” He’s eager to absorb everything he can from the former world champion, adding, “I’m just listening and trying out new strategies. We’ll see how it turns out and what it brings in the future.”
He’s hopeful for a lasting partnership, saying, “I really want this to be a long-term collaboration, but it ultimately depends on whether he enjoys working with me or ends up finding it unenjoyable.” He added with a touch of humor, “If he feels I’m ignoring his advice, I doubt he’d stick around and waste his time.”
