Pohlcat Golf Course in Mount Pleasant has some exciting news for golfers in central Michigan: it has partnered with Troon to manage golf operations, agronomy, food and beverage, and sales and marketing.
Designed by the talented Dan Pohl, a Mount Pleasant native and PGA TOUR winner, Pohlcat has become a favorite among Michigan golfers. I once reviewed Pohlcat Golf Course and gave it a solid A-.
Scottsdale-based Troon is well-known for its expertise, managing over 940 locations across 45 states and 40 countries. Their experience spans golf courses, homeowner associations, private estates, and hospitality venues.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Dan Pohl, and he’s a genuinely nice guy. I’m hopeful this new collaboration with Troon will be a successful venture.
Here are more details straight from the press release:
On April 4, 2025, Troon, the foremost provider of golf and club-related leisure and hospitality services, announced it will manage Pohlcat Golf Course, a public course in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Indigo Sports, a division of Troon, will handle operations, agronomy, food and beverage, and marketing efforts.
Jon Voigtman, co-owner of Pohlcat Golf Course, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, saying, “We’re delighted to join hands with Troon and Indigo Sports to enhance the Pohlcat experience. Their industry-leading knowledge and commitment to excellence will ensure we provide outstanding golf and hospitality experiences for our community and visitors.”
Pohlcat, an 18-hole course beautifully designed by Dan Pohl, boasts tree-lined fairways and scenic views over the 100-foot-wide Chippewa River. This par-72 course stretches over 6,954 yards and blends modern and classic links-style holes. The practice facilities are impressive too, offering a driving range, chipping green, and two putting greens.
For over 30 years, Pohlcat has been dedicated to delivering top-notch golf that’s accessible to all. Dan Pohl, who clinched victories at the 1986 NEC World Series of Golf and the Colonial National Invitation, shared his eagerness to see Troon elevate Pohlcat further.
The clubhouse at Pohlcat includes The Den Bar & Grill, a well-stocked golf shop, and golf simulators for all-year-round enjoyment. Moreover, the recently updated banquet facility is perfect for gatherings, with room for up to 275 guests and offers a covered veranda overlooking the golf course and Chippewa River.
Nick Bednar, Vice President of Operations at Troon, expressed his excitement about starting this partnership, saying, “We’re thrilled to work with Pohlcat, one of the top public golf venues in mid-Michigan and beyond.
