Top-ranked flyweight Muhammad Mokaev is gearing up for a new challenge as he steps into the Karate Combat arena.
A representative from the promotion confirmed to MMA Fighting that Mokaev has officially signed with Karate Combat. The 24-year-old fighter had already teased this exciting news on Twitter, and fans can now look forward to his debut at the Karate Combat event scheduled for May 2 in Dubai.
Mokaev took to Twitter to express his enthusiasm, saying, “May 2nd Dubai @KarateCombat. My first ever sport was karate, then I moved to wrestling. I just want to compete and stay active and build my striking experience. I always will have plan B, which is wrestling, but I need to work on plan A.”
This sentiment echoes his past, as Mokaev shared, “My first ever sport was karate, then I moved to wrestling,” highlighting his desire to continually improve and evolve as a fighter. “I just want to compete and stay active, and [continue] building my striking experience. I always will have plan-B, which is wrestling, but I need to work on plan-A.”
Mokaev’s track record in the UFC was impressive, with a 7-0 streak. However, following a decision victory over Manel Kape at UFC 304 this past July, his contract lapsed, and the organization opted not to renew it.
Since then, the No. 10-ranked fighter in MMA Fighting’s Global Rankings has not been idle. Most recently, he took part in Brave CF 91 in December, where he claimed a first-round submission triumph over Joevincent So. Now, Mokaev’s fans are eagerly anticipating his next chapter in the Karate Combat circuit.
