In a recent revelation, Alex Pereira is optimistic about the UFC embracing the idea of organizing a high-profile boxing match against the reigning lineal heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk, in the foreseeable future.
Currently set to put his UFC light heavyweight title on the line against Magomed Ankalaev in the headlining bout of UFC 313 on March 8, Pereira expressed his interest in a recent interview. He’s particularly intrigued after Usyk mentioned wanting a “show fight” with the Brazilian fighter.
Speaking in Portuguese during a conversation with Mark Bouris in Sydney, Pereira shared, “I’ve always wanted to step into the boxing ring. When asked my ideal opponent, I said it should be a fellow champion. Usyk fits that bill, and now he’s even spoken about wanting to face me.”
Highlighting the ongoing collaboration between boxing and the UFC, Pereira added, “If both sports organizations are syncing up, I see no reason why this fight couldn’t happen.”
Pereira’s journey through the UFC has been nothing short of spectacular. He swiftly claimed two championship belts, thanks to seven knockout victories in just nine matches. His upcoming title defense follows his impressive finishes over Khalil Rountree, Jiri Prochazka, and Jamahal Hill in 2024.
Usyk, boasting an unbeaten record of 23-0 with 14 knockouts, cemented his legendary status in 2024 by defeating boxing icon Tyson Fury twice in succession. At 38, his illustrious career also includes victories over Daniel Dubois, Anthony Joshua, and Derek Chisora.
