The Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors are currently navigating the complexities of the NBA’s roster requirements, as both teams find themselves below the minimum player threshold. This week, they’re required to bolster their squads to include a 14th player, which they can achieve by signing someone either on a 10-day contract or for the rest of the season.
For the Kings, they slipped beneath this 14-player minimum after the expiration of Skal Labissiere’s 10-day contract last week. They’re getting close to exhausting their 28-day allowance for being under the limit as dictated by league rules. Therefore, Sacramento must secure a 14th player by March 18 to stay compliant.
Similarly, the Warriors’ roster dipped to 13 players following the end of Kevin Knox II’s 10-day stint last week. Much like Sacramento, Golden State is also nearing its 28-day period of flexibility. They’ll need to add a 14th player by March 23. Golden State is also in a financially strategic position, as they are approaching enough cap space under their first-apron hard cap, which could potentially allow them to bring in two players for the remainder of the season.
