On Thursday night, Manchester United’s victory over Real Sociedad was made sweeter by Patrick Dorgu’s commendation of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro. The match ended in a convincing 4-1 win for United.
Real Sociedad took an early lead when Mikel Oyarzabal converted a penalty, but that was as far as their luck would stretch. United quickly turned the tide with Fernandes scoring twice from the penalty spot—first at the 16-minute mark and then again at 50 minutes. Later, he dazzled the crowd with a phenomenal strike, securing his hat-trick. To seal the deal, Diogo Dalot netted a goal during added time, keeping Manchester United firmly in the race for silverware this season.
Although he didn’t score, Dorgu shone brightly on the pitch, notably drawing the foul that resulted in United’s second penalty.
Following the game, the former Bologna player shared his thoughts with MUTV, expressing his delight. “Getting this win at Old Trafford, with such an incredible atmosphere, felt fantastic,” he said.
Reflecting on his role in the match, Dorgu emphasized the collective energy of the team, saying, “Having an outlet down the left like today is vital, but honestly, the entire team was just buzzing with energy from the kickoff.”
He continued, “You could feel the crowd’s energy right from the start. Once we were up 3-1, the game really opened up, making it easier to play with such talented teammates who can deliver the ball perfectly.”
Speaking about his experience playing alongside Fernandes and Casemiro, Dorgu complimented their skill: “It’s a privilege to play with such quality players. They make it easy for the rest of us to create link-ups.”
The 20-year-old fullback explained his strategy of consistently making runs, hoping his talented teammates would find him. He had a few attempts at goal that evening, though he couldn’t hit the mark.
When asked if he plans to keep trying his luck at goal, he quipped, “Looks like Bruno needs to give me a few pointers, but I’m confident, it’ll happen soon.”
Next up for Manchester United is their quarter-final clash against Lyon, with the first leg in France on April 10 and the return fixture at Old Trafford a week later.
