Justin Fields has plenty of reasons to smile in Dubai — 40 million, to be exact.
The newly signed Jets quarterback recently celebrated in high spirits alongside a host of NFL stars in Dubai, just as free agency began to unfold around the globe. A video clip shared by Bleacher Report captures this vibrant scene.
While the exact date of this celebration remains unconfirmed, Bleacher Report’s timing hints it took place shortly after Fields put pen to paper on a lucrative two-year, $40 million contract with the Jets, which guarantees him a cool $30 million.
In this lively gathering, Fields is joined by NFL talent like Micah Parsons, Bijan Robinson, and Kyle Pitts. The dual-threat QB, amidst a lively crowd that seems to have gathered in a bustling restaurant, captures the jubilant atmosphere as staff swirl sparklers and appear to parade a champagne bottle from a perch on the back of the seating area.
Amidst chants of “Hey,” Fields and Pitts are noticeably reveling in the moment.
If in fact these festivities occurred after Fields secured his new contract, it’s easy to understand his joy.
After the Steelers benched Fields in favor of Russell Wilson last season, the Jets have stepped up with a generous offer to make him their QB.
Fields’s talents, particularly his rushing prowess, have never been in question. However, there’s still speculation about whether the 26-year-old can lift his team’s passing game and transform them into an offensive powerhouse.
Last season in Pittsburgh, Fields posted a 4-2 record, with five touchdowns against one interception as a starter while rushing for 231 yards and five scores.
Yet, in four of those appearances, he struggled to surpass 160 passing yards.
As a former first-round pick from Ohio State, Fields has tallied 45 touchdown passes to 31 interceptions over his career, along with 19 rushing touchdowns.
Fields now has the opportunity to expand on last season’s moderate achievements with the Jets, where expectations remain modest. He will be working alongside former Buckeyes teammate Garrett Wilson and standout running back Breece Hall.
His two-year contract grants the Jets leeway. They can opt out without significant repercussions if things don’t pan out, but they also retain Fields for another year if he flourishes.
