Williams’s commitment to the Gators is significant for two main reasons.
Firstly, he’s highly regarded in the 2026 recruiting class. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, he’s the No. 3 linebacker nationwide and ranks as the No. 53 recruit in the whole country. For the Gators, securing someone of his caliber—an expected college-level standout from Tavares High School—is undeniably a win.
Secondly, what’s arguably more intriguing is his recruitment journey. Williams initially pledged his future to Florida State back in September. However, by November, he decided to explore other options, reopening recruitment. His top five then included Florida, Penn State, Florida State, Georgia, and Alabama. Previously, he’d also been committed to Syracuse.
After parting ways with FSU, Williams didn’t rush into a new decision. He steadily fielded new offers, yet the one he got from the Gators in May consistently caught his eye.
Speaking with 247Sports, Williams revealed, “I can’t lie, as soon as Florida offered, I knew back then,” hinting at his fondness for the program even amidst other commitments. His childhood admiration for the Gators, sparked by watching Tim Tebow and dreams of being a quarterback, kept Florida in his heart.
Despite interest from notable programs, the allure of the Gators ultimately won him over. Sure, he has had prior decommits, which is a point of interest, but his enthusiasm for Florida seems genuine this time around.
Had things gone differently, Williams might be with the Seminoles today. His choice is indeed a coup for Florida.
He emphasized, “I grew up a fan of the Gators and I can’t turn the opportunity to play at Florida down. Florida is a top public school academically, and I can get a great education there. The coaches have recruited me really hard, and Florida is where I want to be.”
This makes him the third recruit in Napier’s class of 2026, bolstering the future prospects for the team.
