Novak Djokovic, currently holding the seventh spot in global rankings, is eagerly gearing up for a potential comeback to both the Indian Wells and Miami tournaments after a six-year hiatus.
The allure for Djokovic lies in the possibility of carving out yet another slice of history at these prestigious tournaments by setting a new record for the most men’s titles won. At Indian Wells, he’s tied with Roger Federer, boasting five titles each. Meanwhile, in Miami, he’s neck-and-neck with Andre Agassi, with both legends having claimed six titles.
Despite his impressive track record, Djokovic hasn’t clinched a victory at either event since 2016. The COVID-19 pandemic saw the cancellation of both tournaments in 2020, and while they resumed in 2021, Djokovic opted out.
In 2022 and 2023, he faced another hurdle: U.S. entry restrictions prevented his participation due to his vaccination status. When he did return to Indian Wells last year, he experienced an unexpected defeat at the hands of Italian underdog Luca Nardi. Afterward, he chose to skip the Miami Open, citing a mix of personal and professional scheduling conflicts.
Now, with these challenges in the past, Djokovic seems ready to make his mark once more on the courts of Indian Wells and Miami, pursuing the chance to stand alone atop the record books.
